Sammy Kaye's band was a textbook example of "fragrant" dance bands: large groups whose arrangements rarely swung in the true sense, only were very popular among those who enjoyed overly impressible light pop and novelty tunes. Kaye began structure his reputation in college, then became a lucky venture on radio in Cincinnati. He moved to Pittsburgh and eventually became a public staple.
